Martha Emmons, Paducah; Jack Eicher, London; Deborah Stigall and Bike Coordinator,

Tiffani Jackson, Transportation Cabinet.

SRTS National Course Training

Tiffani reported that she and Morgan Wilson, the KY Safe Routes to School Coordinator, returned from attending a training to teach the SRTS National Course.   They both are now nationally certified to teach the course in Kentucky and all other states.  Tiffani and Morgan will visit different communities to inform a variety of local officials (school, health, police department, government) about Safe Routes to School and how it can be implemented in their specific area.  They will focus on selected communities in Kentucky, especially those with an interest in SRTS funding.  The commission recommended that the Tiffani look into getting Continuing Education units tied to the course to entice engineers, planners, etc... to attend.

March 7th Bike/Ped plan meeting in Franfkfort-Tiffani mentioned that the meeting was a success and was pleasantly surprised at the great turnout. Many good ideas and concerns regarding bike/ped came out of the meeting.  Martha said that she was also encouraged by the many people that came out that day, but was also discouraged by the lack of knowledge many had about the Commission and bicycling in KY.

Other information
Tiffani suggested having the NKY bike/ped coordinator attend the meeting in May for any updates in that area. Also Jack Eicher recently had heart transplant surgery, but was able to call in during the meeting. He is doing fine, but will stay in North Carolina for another 6 weeks before coming home to KY.
