Mountain Biking VP Report - May 2004
I would like to thank everyone that helped work on the trail for the rained out "White Lightning Race". That race has been re-scheduled for Saturday, May 15th. Registration will stay the same as well as start times. Please, give me a call if you are interested in volunteering to help for the 15th.
Race season has started, I would like to wish everyone good luck in their races and to ride as safe as possible. Pleases, stay focused on the road, trail, and riders in front of you. A good friend of mine, Kirk Starter, is laid up with a broken collar bone and bruised hip. He was looking at a passing hummer and turned around just in time to hit the rear wheel of Chris Allen.
Alan Brown, has gone west to ride everyday and live his retirement dream. I will miss Alan and all his help this summer. I wish him the best of luck.
I ran the River to River Run with Gina Dunning, Butch Jones (Driver), Steve Beckett, Chris Janne, Randy Janne (Statistician), Marty Ryan, Mike Bugg, Wendy Heise, and Devon Barnes. This is an awesome event. I would encourage people to get on a team and try this event. We finished 118 out of 218 teams, 20 out of 34 mixed teams. Time 11:00:09.
I went to Cape and did the bike leg of a tri. Our swimmer was Dr. John Griffith, Dean of MSU Library and the runner was Tung Dinh of Murray. W finished first in our age division and second over all men's team. It was really cool seeing this event for the first time. I really want to do one solo now.
Please, ride, run, and swim Safe, Steve........
I hope that somebody has a good lance story to tell, from Ga. I wish I could have gotten to see the team fly by as the Blue Train. I did get front row at Vegas. 10 feet from him and not being able to get an autograph or something was tuff.
