I’ve got the Georgia redneck to prove it and so does Gina, Butch, Vicki, Michael Bugg,Barnum and Dick Berry. Tour de Georgia here we come!! We went to four stages starting
with the Time trials on Thursday just as Larry Hickey was inaugurating our own new TT’s. “Where will Larry hook up the Jumbotron,” was my first question?? It was an auspicious beginning as we got to see Lance take that ‘peachy’ yellow jersey as well as win the TT hands down. On Thursday we met Barnum and Dick in a small town called Dahlonega to watch the conclusion of Stage 5. We were front row to watch them come in, make the curve and on to the finish. Once again we see Lance take the yellow. On Sat. we headed for Brasstown Bald, the mountain stage. It was as close to being on a mountain in France as I am likely to get. Vicki said, “I almost cried when Lance went by.” Yes, climbing was tough for them and it was SOME climb!! Then we had to climb the mountain again to see Lance AND Sheryl. It was one wild day. Sunday we headed for Thunder Road to watch them take off. Quite a spectacle as they all pull in with team cars, team bikes, photographers, FANS like us, and BOB ROLL. Butch was directing the Postal Motorhome into its parking spot like he was Mr. Security. It was actually a very open environment and except for the Postal team, most other riders (and Bob Roll) were very accessible. This was one time in my life where all my expectations were met and exceeded!!
