Mountain Biking News by Steve Wilson

Hello Riders,

Hope everyone is having a good summer? Lance, just plain old “kicked ass” in the tour. I hope he does it again next year. What’s there to lose? I do have an empty spot in the day with out the tour on OLN. I guess I’ll get over it though.

There's not a whole lot going on in the MTN bike world. There is now a Tuesday night ride along with the Thursday night ride. Both are seeing more riders and we have been going to Ricozy’s for pizza after the ride. Don’t worry about being the last rider. I have been riding with several kids and adults that are just starting and I don’t leave until everyone is off the trail Meet at the North Welcome Station in LBL.

The trail is growing up more with the absence of Alan Brown. Matt Edwards, Bill Ryan, Steve Beckett, Tim and Veronica Ingland, Rob Bell and family, myself and a few others have worked on the trail some but it needs a lot more.

There is going to be a NORBA Sanctioned MTN bike race “Racer Rampage” at Barkely Lodge Saturday, August 21st. The race is a fund raiser for Murray State U. Cycling Club. Pass on the word to any would-be racers. Contact me at Wood-N-Wave 270-362-2453 for info or if you want to help. Jake Stone, Tim and Veronica Ingland, Landon and myself have been working on the trail.

I know a while back it was suggested to run the Wednesday night ride backwards and it didn’t last long. It was suggested for safety reasons. I do wish we would put the sprint line somewhere before crossing HWY 62 or change the rules for the front group to cross as a group, then resume the sprint. I have asked a few riders and they think it is a good idea. We try to look out for each other on the intersections but we still have some close calls. I would hate to call clear and get someone run over because I didn't see a car until it was too late. Tim Boyd and I were not even racing the other day an nearly pulled out on an oncoming car blocked from view by a guard rail.
