Biking News by Steve
Wilson A Mix of the Miscellaneous from the Mind of our Mountain Master By SteveWilson, Mountain Bike VP CRCC Members-Sorry, I missed the "LINKS"
deadline last month. There's not much to tell that you don't already know. The
Century rides have been awesome. I have had a very good one and a very bad one.
I'll see what happens at Murray for the metric century. The Canal Loop Trail is very dry at the moment
and the N/S trail is needing a rain (bad) to set the soil from the LBL 200. Our
Tuesday and Thursday night off road rides are going good. But, just like the
Paduach road rides, we need to start around 5pm to get everybody through before
dark. People wanting to ride multi loops or starting at 6pm should bring lights.
After the weather cools down more. I plan to work
on the Canal Loop more. Basically put in more water bars to keep erosion down. I
will put something in the news letter at a later date. The September 25 road
ride at Murray went good. We did have one rider go down (Gary Collins). Some
road rash on his right butt cheek and sore body. I think they had 30-35 riders.
Not near what Mis-minds has.I have decided the Trace ride is to hard and traffic
to bad for most riders to enjoy, so I probably will not have that ride next
year. If anyone has any other suggestions let me know? The BALD EAGLE CHALLENGE
(BEC) MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE is Sunday, Oct 24, 2004.
Racers can go online at www.active.com and pre-register. I will have something
on www.woodnwave.com before long. I will be needing some help with registration
start points and marking the trail. If anyone is interested in helping, call me
at the shop 270/362-2453.
One last detail, I have noticed an alarming number of dead squirrels on most of the road rides this year. I saw 6-8 on Murray's ride Saturday. I really think the poor animals think they can truly run cars off in the ditches by looking cute and standing middle of the road holding a nut. They also run rampant on the Canal Loop and cause a few mountain bike wrecks. I just nearly got one of the little hairy beggars today. Please beware that we have such a small group of creatures trying to take over the world - one bike and car at a time!
I would like to start some trail runs now that the weather is cooling down. Beckett and myself would like to start a little earlier this season for the 37mi. ultra. Call and let me know some times if anyone is interested.
