By: Steve Beckett The MM ride was great wasn’t it? My helmet goes off to Hutch and Martha and ALL of the many volunteers that made it a super event! I hope the names are printed elsewhere in the Links for full recognition of a job well done ! We had perfect weather, great sign-up and parking location, awesome rest stop food, great SAG vehicles and drivers, great road marking and a good crowd of riders from Hammer Heads to first timers and many in between. My experience was one of mixed emotions; from being pumped-up by getting to ride Larry’s brand spankin’ new sweet Kestrel, to the dismal reality of not enough mileage and getting major leg cramps and bonking. Of course being dropped by the Hickey Pelaton a couple times and then making it to the rest stop to greet the group (just before they were leaving again) was all part of the fun. I got in 85 miles, but missed the Oscar rest stop and heard it was great (I skipped the H’ville to Oscar section) . I rode in solo and that was the worst part, for I didn’t get to finish (suffer) with my buds to the dreary end. My excuses would fill another page, so I’ll spare you all…I’m sure I have some you haven’t heard before…and like he said: If you can’t hang with the big dogs…well you know the rest. There will be another Century ride and next time, by gosh, I’ll get my free Pizza !! The next BIG event is the BEC MTB Race on Sunday, Oct. 24. Actually, for those not racing, Saturday the 23rd is a big day, as we will need your help in trail prep and set up. Contact Steve ahead of time, please don’t wait until the last minute, it frazzles the nerves of a coordinator. This is a demanding race to put on because of the point-to-point layout. Call him! Don’t forget: the CRCC Annual Dinner will be right around the corner. Martha will be requesting RSVP for any members interested, please respond promptly. Dream it, plan it, do it...
